Professor Clive Finlayson MBE, DPhil, MAE is Director of the Gibraltar National Museum and also has the specific roles of Chief Scientist and Curator. He has a first class honours degree in Zoology from the University of Liverpool and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. He is also Master of Science in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester. Clive was elected a Member of the Academia Europea in 2010.
His research interests are varied and include human evolution and avian biogeography. Clive has written eight books and co-authored three others and has published with Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Bloomsbury. He has a large list of papers and articles to his name.
He was awarded the MBE in H.M. the Queen’s New Year’s Honours in 2003.
In 2019 he was awarded the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction by the Gibraltar Parliament for Public Service, specifically for his work on Gorham's Cave. He was also appointed Beacon Professor of the University of Gibraltar the same year.
