The Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal

Here is a description of the Theatre Royal from the 1934 Gibraltar Directory:

“Situated in Governor’s Parade, the Theatre Royal was inaugurated on the 10th May 1847, with Verdi’s Opera “Nabucodonosor” and has been twice entirely rebuilt and remodelled and considerable improvements introduced. It was reopened on the 21st December 1893, after undergoing repairs lasting for five years and again on the 16th March 1914, with Verdi’s “Aida”. The means of access and exit are ample, and the ventilation has been carefully attended to. It has accommodation for about 1,000.”
