Sacred Heart Church

The 1934 Gibraltar Directory reported the following:

“This handsome Church and the Schools adjoining were erected mainly through the constant exertions and energy of the late Vicar Apostolic of Gibraltar, the Right Reverend Dr. Scandella, Bishop of Antinöe, who died in the summer of 1880, and was interred in the Church. The Church and the Schools adjoining were designed by the late Temistio Tudury. The foundation stone of this Church was laid by the Bishops of Cadiz and Antinöe on the 25th April 1874 and formally blessed on the 15th July 1888, by the Right Rev. the Bishop of Lystra.”
