The following is an extract from the 1922 Gibraltar Directory:
30 April 1921
“Arrival of H.I.H. Prince Hirohito, the Crown Prince of Japan, in H.I.J.M.S. ‘Katori’, which was accompanied by the ‘Kashima’. They were met by British destroyers and the customary salutes were exchanged with the Fortress. Official visit paid to H.I.H. by H.E. the Governor and Rear-Admiral Pelly. H.I.H. landed at 2 p.m., and returned His Excellency’s visit. He inspected the Guard of Honour of the Middlesex Regt. At Ragged Staff and then visited the town. On his arrival at Government House he was received by a Guard of Honour of Boy Scouts and His Lordship the Roman Catholic Bishop of Gibraltar, His Honour the Chief Justice and other officials and civilian representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Exchange Committee. H.I.H. attended the Races at North Front.
Dinner Party at Government House in honour of His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince of Japan.”

Garden Party at Government House attended by His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince of Japan.
Dinner Party on board His Imperial Japanese Majesty’s Ship ‘Katori’ given by His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince of Japan.”
