We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic archaeologist to contribute their expertise on an exciting range of commercial projects. 

The ideal applicant will be someone who can take a project from inception to publication, who is unafraid of asking for advice, and who will use initiative to problem solve.  Our senior officers are helpful and proactive mentors, who will champion their teams well-being on site, and who are available to support junior staff.

The role primarily involves excavating and recording archaeology of various periods on a range of site and project types.  Working hours will depend on volume of work, with the opportunity to work up to 5 days a week (37 hours per week during contracts, and 0 hours between projects - the post has been averaging 30 hours per week in the last year).

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum qualification in archaeology, good single or joint honours degree (BA or BSc)
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing archaeological/cultural heritage desk studies, and/or Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Practical fieldwork experience – some time working on development-led projects would be an advantage
  • Familiarity with Gibraltar and/or UK planning systems
  • Knowledge of Gibraltar's archaeology, history, and source material
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body – Membership (ACIfA or MCIfA) of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, or commitment to join, is desirable
  • A current clean driving licence, and unequivocal willingness and competency to drive for business needs (including driving our vehicles)
  • Experience of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Historic Environment Record (HER) would be a distinct advantage
