Vacancy at The Gibraltar Museum
Part-Time Counter Clerk
An opportunity has arisen at The Gibraltar Museum to join the dedicated front-of-house team providing the first point of contact for museum visitors at the reception desk and shop. We are looking for a confident, well presented, polite person with excellent communication skills and who demonstrates outstanding customer service.
This post is for part-time receptionist, and will be based primarily at The Gibraltar Museum, but the successful candidate may be required to work at other museum sites. The duties will include meeting, greeting and directing members of the public, visitors, students and researchers at the reception desk and shop, controlling museum admissions, answering calls and taking messages, as well as assisting the sales team when necessary. Duties will also include being responsible for the presentation and sales of the museum shop, monitoring CCTV equipment as well as general receptionist duties. The successful candidate will be able to maintain confidentiality and remain patient and tactful at all times.
Recent experience in a reception or retail environment will be a definite advantage, as will the ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people. The successful applicant will be able to operate telephone systems and accurately record messages, and be sufficiently literate and numerate enough to deal with sales, enquiries and cashing up duties. They must have an excellent telephone manner, helpful attitude, and the flexibility and ability to work on a variety of tasks concurrently.
Applicants should also possess broad local knowledge and excellent communication skills which will enable them to answer a variety of visitors’ queries. They should also be able to communicate and liaise confidently, in line with the museum's mission, vision and values, and ideally have an understanding of the needs of museum visitors. Applicants must also be willing to learn and keep abreast of the research that is being carried out by the Gibraltar Museum.
The successful applicant must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
