International Bat Night 2017

The Gibraltar Museum will once again join the Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society to host the annual International Bat Night which will be held at the Open Air Theatre at the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens as from 20:00 on Friday 6th October 2017. Annual bat nights have been taking place since 1997 in over 30 countries under the auspices of EUROBATS (Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats)

The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the need for bat conservation by breaking down the barriers between humans and bats; informing the public of the essential ecological benefits that bats bring - even having a direct impact on our daily lives.

This year's event will be the 10th International Bat Night held in Gibraltar and the 4th since the start of the Gib-Bats Project. Entrance is free of charge and everyone is welcome!

Activities will include:

  • Face painting

  • Talks by bat experts

  • Seeing bats in flight

  • Hearing the sounds bats make through bat detectors

  • Special displays

  • Questions and answers

  • and much more!
